Sarah Connor Chronicles: Ep 1.09 What he beheld
So I finished all nine episodes of Season 1... Did they just explode Cameron?!! Aiieeeeekkkk! Noooooo! My favourite new character cannot go pfft! That is BANNED. Especially not when she's been sent out to buy birthday cake. (I found them sending the cyborg killing machine for cake ridiculously charming!)

I thought 'Vick's Chip' was a great episode--very creepy, with lots of interesting material to reflect on where Cameron is concerned. I like the way she fits in the show because she's not the only one whose motivations are called into question. Sarah and John are constantly second-guessing what they should or shouldn't do as well--the path to stopping the future is never clear and while Cameron's way is brutal, it might also be their only chance. I like that paradox. And like John I want to trust Cameron. But for that reason I'm also wary of her: she's seductive, and potentially unpredictable. But I found her having her chip removed really confronting--especially since we know that she was moved by the death of the other terminator.

And now she's 'sploded?! Nooooo!! They must do some time-jumpy business to get her back. *nods*

Oh, and I loved the scene where John went to see his wee!father play baseball in the park. That was gorgeous. I think John's shaping up as my second favourite character because his longing for family seems so palpable and because of his trust in Cameron.

The other Cameron scene I loved was the 'no, it belongs to the guy I killed and stuffed in the trunk' scene. *facepalm* If she comes back, they really need to do some more house-training.

So what happened with this show? It got cut short because of the writer's strike, is that right? But there's a second season on the cards? But not officially yet?

Woot, another Cameron fan! I love her so much, she's so interesting. I always liked her, but after that dancing scene in 1x07 she definitely became my favourite.
They can rebuild her, right? They must. :(

I hope the show gets picked up. I know the ratings aren't perfect, but it's getting better and better, it deserves another season.

Yeah, Cameron's definitely my favourite! She's brilliant. And I agree that the show's getting better... it feels like a show that will build rather than flop.

Surely they didn't explode her - she'll be okay. *fingers crossed* I too loved the scene where Reese took him to see wee Kyle playing baseball - how awesome was that? And the scene with Cameron getting her chip removed - although I worry that John's getting attached to her and her motivations are unclear.

Can't wait for next season! Yay!

Incidentally, I noticed at my local Best Buy that Terminator 2 on Blu-Ray was only $17.99 -- but yet the original Terminator was $25...? Makes me wonder if they're going to come out with a super-ultra-mega version of T2 on Blu-Ray, hence the cheap price on the bare-bones edition. Still, I might pick it up anyway. T2 is a movie that hubby and I have in literally EVERY incarnation - VHS, laserdisc, laserdisc special edition boxset, DVD, DVD special edition boxset -- haha! It used to be his system test movie for a new sound system -- before The Matrix came out. :)

Yeah, it's interesting. I think Sarah's reactions to her as the closest to how I would actually be around her--and yet I find myself feeling sorry for her when Sarah is curt or intolerant of Cameron saying unfeeling things. Cameron creates such fascinating tension in the show because we're torn between wanting to trust her and being worried about her motivations. She's such a mystery! John's instincts could be right--after all future!John trusted her too, yes? But then again...

I can imagine T2 as a system test movie. ;) But yeah, I think we'd be due for a re-pack boxset maybe? I'm ashamed to admit I don't own any of them--but I'm now driven to do so, or at least rewatch. ;)

There was actually a time when I could quote the whole beginning of T2, Sarah's whole speech about Judgment Day and the war against the machines, that's how many times I had to listen to it in various configurations, haha. :)

Heee! I can see how that could happen. I've seen it multiple times at the cinema and it's one of those movies that lots of people can quote from, I think.

The season was shortened by the strike. No word yet on official renewal, but the guy who plays John has mentioned that the showrunners were asked to pitch story ideas to FOX for a second season which he took as a positive sign.

Do you really think Cameron won't be back? Pfft!
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Batgirlbop_radar on March 12th, 2008 12:18 am (UTC)
Heh. No, I don't really think she won't be back but it's fun to overreact--means I'm really into the show. ;) I did have a small fear that they might bring her back not as Summer Glau any more though... that would be a great shame I think as Summer is rocking the roll so far.

The nice thing about the Terminator canon is that unless Cameron got super-hot chemical blown-up, she can rebuild herself. I bet she gets killed a lot in future seasons (which I refuse to believe won't happen).

I am agog with crossover possibilities between SCC and BSG. Cameron/Six-- how hot would that be?
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Kara/Lee plottingbop_radar on March 12th, 2008 12:17 am (UTC)
It's a convenient canon that way, isn't it? I just hope the rebuild is not too squicky. ;)

Crossovers! Ohhh... yes! I'd love to see how the humans responded to the 'Cylon but not Cylon'-ness of Cameron. In some ways she feels like an under-evolved Cylon, actually.

Assuming the show does get picked up for a second season, I'm sure Cameron will be fine. Terminators are pretty hard to kill. Plus, they would be crazy to get rid of her!

Indeed! :) I like overreacting though. It made me realise how much I liked Cameron that the explosion made me gasp.

Cameron steals every scene she's in. She's like a child in a way just says whatever pops into her brain. I pretty much think no matter what happens Cameron has to insure her existence and she's going to find a way.

Oh, and I loved the scene where John went to see his wee!father play baseball in the park.

I'm not ashamed to admit I might have teared up a bit on that scene. It was amazing and I think they did a great job hiring the kids.

Pretty much yes to all of these. I do hope it comes back though and I hope Cameron's coming back. I'm going to be living in denial that she didn't explode ;-)

She is like a child, you're right. And she's definitely a show stealer. The ballet ep was really beautiful and I also liked her sitting down to write about her grief feelings.

I think the park scene did a lot to make Reese's character more sympathetic to me. I didn't warm to him much at all until then, but hearing him speak about fighting to stop the world burning really helped define his character. As the older of the two kids when it happened, I think his character makes a lot of sense. And I can see why he'd see Sarah as a bit 'weak' (if 'pure'!) in comparison. I think Sarah will prove him worng though.

It was gorgeous. I love that they used Summer Glau's talent here but it was also kind of scary in the context.

Just yes with this. I could not agree more. I was kind of eh about his character until that moment.
I think Sarah will prove him worng though.
She better!

Yeah, seeing Cameron do ballet was creepy and moving at the same time.
