Returned from the rainforest
Hello there peoples! This is just a quick note to let you know that I'm back. I had the most incredible time in the Daintree. It's definitely one of the most amazing places I've ever visited and a complete world away from my city stresses. Once I've sorted them out I'll post some photos, but to give you a quick idea, I saw two cassowaries (*glee*), six crocodiles, a sea turtle, a reef shark, heaps of tropical fish on the reef, huge tropical butterflies, a bandicoot, loads of freshwater turtles (I swam with them!) and fish, heaps of musk rat kangaroos (adorable little guys that scuttered around at breakfast with us), as well as all sorts of insect life, most of which I wasn't actually scared by. Oh, and my first ever firefly!

I won't be reading my f'list until the weekend (and until I've seen Ep 4.1 of BSG, which looking at the pile of work in front of me won't be any time soon). But drop me a line if there are posts you want me to check out on the weekend.

Hope you're all as happy and relaxed as I am. :)

YAY! Welcome back! Can't wait to see the photos and your reaction(s) to 04x01! *g*

Hee! Yes, you are probably right that they will be plural. ;) But I am blissfully unspoiled so YAY!

I thought I would be twitching to get back seeing as I was missing the ep, but I have found some rainforest zen about it, it seems and am calmly awaiting time and space to view.

WT, you're back! YAY! Your rainforest vacation sounds oh so very relaxing, and I'm glad you enjoyed your time off. I'm a wee bit selfishly happy you're here again, though. :)

I've been holding off on finishing my episode review, there have been so many things to ponder. Maybe we can make the world's last posts on that together? I did do a picspam about it, though. And went off on some etymologically-driven Kara spec (no spoilers).

I'm happy to be back as well. I missed my peoples (you included OF COURSE!).

Yay, I'm not the last to post! :D But I'm possibly the last to SEE it... I will check out your posts when I've done so. ;) I've got friends/family b'day dinners tonight and tomorrow so it may be the weekend before I see... lucky I'm so zen from the r'forest!

(Oh, and I received amazing good news re. the medical dramas you know of so that's an added reason for my happy. *g*)

HOORAY for the good news! WHEEEEEEE! I'm so glad.

Enjoy those dinners. I'll just pine for you till then.

Yeah, I got a text message JUST before I crossed the Daintree River into Cape Trib (where there is no mains electricity or mobile phone reception). I think the other people in the ferry queue thought I was mad jumping up and down with joy. ;)

No pine! I am right here! It's just I can only talk about things like cassowaries and turtles for now... :p (But very much looking forward to having my pilots back!)
Dionusia: starbuck and apollodionusia on April 10th, 2008 12:49 am (UTC)
Cassowaries and turtles are all very good, yes! And it is not their fault that they do not have that certain totally addictive flail-inducing smoulder of our OTP. But it will still be there waiting for you!

Heh heh heh. I can draw cassowary/turtle analogies if you push me...

I got pretty mesmerised watching the turles in the stream near our cabin and there were two that kept annoying each other--one would swim up underneath/behind the other and nudge it, or would try and climb on it's back. They weren't mating, just messing around in the water... but not unpilot-like, yes?

I found out that despite the fact that most books will tell you that female cassowaries violently reject the male after mating, my local tour guide said she'd seen family groups together. A promising sign that not all superficially independent/aggressive females stay that way forever? ;p

Hee! You are making me want to write angsty hot pilots fic just so I can call it Like Cassowaries.

It really was! I couldn't believe how much we packed in to a short trip, and how pristine the place was. Also the diversity was incredible--so many different plant, bird, animal and insect species in close proximity.

God that sounds amazing. I cannot imagine it. What a wonderful experience.

I had to look up what a cassowary was.

Nora! *HUGS*

Big black flightless bird, very rare! :D I'm thinking I might need to include a bunch of explanatory hyperlinks in my picspam post... there was SO MUCH to learn about the rainforest. I was a complete pleb to begin with and couldn't tell one plant, bird or insect from another, but learnt so many cool things. I felt like I was in an Attenborough doco most of the time!

So glad to hear that you had such a good time. The Daintree is a truly special place.

I haven't posted about BSG 401 yet either. I have still been finishing up thoughts about UBEX first, and my work life is still pretty feral.

I can't wait to read your take anyway.

Work life 'feral' ... sounds familiar! Sorry to hear that--hope you get a break soon.
Ariellunar47 on April 10th, 2008 03:55 am (UTC)
that sounds so amazing. I would love to do something like that someday. Can't wait to see pics.

Posts..uh, let's see. If you are in the mood to read drabbles, I posted 4 (Leoben-Respect, Leoben-blueberry pie, Sharon-Troy, and Gaeta-Nevernude) and alissabobissa posted an absolutely hilarious one with Gaius-blueberry scone. lint138 is going to post a Kara-blueberry soon. Can you tell we are trying to get as many people to write about bsg and bluberries. lint also posted a beautiful kara/lee fic, but you will have to watch the episode first.

welcome back :)

BIG welcome back, K!

Your adventure sounds incredibly exciting, I can't wait to see your pictures - especially the casso-whatso bird. ;)

First firefly? Really?
I was raised calling those "lightning bugs." Oh, the terrible things we used to do to those things...
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Ericabop_radar on April 10th, 2008 04:56 am (UTC)
Whee! Yeah, sadly did not get a personal snap of the casso-whatso. One moved to quickly and the other was too far away for my poor camera. But I will describe in detail. *nods*

I know fireflies are very common in some places in the world but I've never seen one before. We also saw glowing fungus which was actually a lot cooler than it sounded. Turning out your torch in the middle of a rainforest at night is scary, but it's cool when you're eyes adjust and you see the glow everywhere.
