Spoilery for season finale!

It ended with 'I love you'. *DIES*

Present tense.

Seriously, you know that they put the 'as a brother' there to get it past the network. That scene was as gay as it could possibly be and still be aired. What with the Lex holding Clark in his arms and the insane eye fucking and the Clark's face helplessly crumpling in response.

When Michael spazzed out in his farewell interview about the final shot of Lex being absolutely brilliant, I didn't really think it would be of Lex HOLDING CLARK IN HIS ARMS. And I didn't think Lex Luthor's final dialogue would be 'I love you as a brother, Clark, but it has to end this way. I'm sorry.'

Whenever I think the gay is gone forever, it comes back redoubled. :D

Michael, I will miss you, but that was a great way to leave!

I have a bazillion other comments to make about the ep overall, but I must sleep first.

Not to mention the hugely phallic pieces of the fortress falling down around them. So Slashtacularly Fantastic I nearly died.

Yup, they killed the Fortress with the power of their Gay. *lol*

I should use some shots of it, yes? In my vid?

Welllll, I did think about that as I was watching it. I wouldn't throw it in there just to have it there. Does it work? Tonally and visually?
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on May 17th, 2008 10:18 am (UTC)
I found a way. In fact it solved one of my problems. And I think it actually works really well where I've put it. But I might need someone to watch and check? *flutters eyelids* I'm trying to put finishing touches on it now.

Sure. Send it over whenever you want.

even though she's a general's daughter from a conservative family, she's a lot more open minded than he may think, and then she flat-out asks him what exactly was up between the two of them.
*fangirls Lois massively*

you know it was still pretty obvious (to me anyway) that Lois was kind of 'going there' in that conversation. Maybe it was Erica's acting or intonation, but in any case I had to pause and flail when she said 'how far do you two go back?' For a moment I didn't think she was going to add 'back': more like 'how far did you two GO?' :)

I never thought I'd hear Lois ask directly about the Clex relationship, but only because I thought the writers would never let her. Of COURSE it would be Lois that would ask.

I got a very AlMiles feeling about the ending. There was some scattered other stuff (like Chloe being arrested and Kara in the Phantom Zone and stuff) that did feel like a 'regular' season finale, and probably had to be because of Season 8. But the stuff with the 'big three': lana leaving and the Clex ending? Felt like the finale they'd always wanted.

just jumping in here, but HOW MUCH do I love the fact that Lois, asks him flat out what was up between the two of them? And I get the feeling, while she knows, about the legal implications, if such a relation did occur, she also knows how easy it can be to get swept up in your first relationship...and she's not going to judge him.

Oh, Lois, you are awesome, aren't you? Oh, it's too bad it had to be cut, especially when there was some Jimmy stuff that I think we could've done without. Ah, well.

Wow, I'm glad I Tivo'd this, then. Shall have to watch tonight when child goes to bed.

It's a hodgepodge of crazy before the final scene. But worth it for the end.

Yes, yes, and yes! Plus, bonus pink kryptonite! I thought the last scene was just perfect.

Pink K FTW! Bring the Gay! :D And it turned pink just as Clark arrived. Yes, yes, it is Clark that brings the gay to Lex's heart. *happy sigh*

Seriously. GAYEST SCENE EVER. It was like a big thank you to all the fangirls for our years of dedicated service. *g*

I'm pretty sure "brother" was code for "super secret sexy lover."

Oh, Michael, I will miss you so. *sniff*

Yeah, like: 'hey, brother, want to suck some bottles of Ty Nant with me?' :D Or 'come here and stroke this crystal, brother' *giggle* Ok, I'm having way too much silly.
anna: smirky 'baumsnarkist on May 17th, 2008 05:43 am (UTC)
Or 'come here and stroke this crystal, brother'
I'm pretty sure that the fact that they were surrounded by a fortress full of phallic crystals was purely coincidental. In that way were it's totally not.

It was pretty awesome. Michael seriously brought it. Tom too. Thanks for helping me get into this show. Can't wait to read more of your thoughts. :-)

OMG!!! The end was awesome and totally Slashtastic!!!! That Lex said 'love' in the present? And the whole holding Clark in his arms thing? *happy sigh*
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: MR dorkbop_radar on May 17th, 2008 05:11 am (UTC)
Right! Both were completely unnecessary to the plot, so FABULOUS that they wrote it that way. And of course Michael played it with the right intensity. I will miss his commitment to The Gay.

Hehe-right when Lex said "I love you (like a brother)." I couldn't help but giggle and squee!

Yeah, totally. :D We all know how to read these things. 'Like a brother' was completely irrelevant.
meretrix: sv - lex - little deathlaisserais on May 17th, 2008 03:18 pm (UTC)
you know, i've never done any research into the creators, but i've been meaning to. the show had always been so clearly about the homoeroticism of these two ultimate enemies, i thought there was no way it was accidental. gough and millar really were doing it on purpose, weren't they?

the pieta was completely excellent. the 'love you' line was gold. some of the other stuff...may require a secondary viewing and some critical thinking, but yes. god. the last scene of them together was totally the money shot, which i'm impressed with, considering how far afield from the primary metaphor of clark-an-lex-as-ex-lovers the show had gotten this season.
