Vidding Truth Meme
This is perfect timing for me, as I'm about to start a vidding project in February. I could really use some concrit as a focus for what to work on.

The Great Vidding Truth Meme | My Thread

How it works:
- Comment with your user name, and those willing shall reply with thoughts on any vids that you have made. That means it does not make a difference what subject(s) your pieces reflect. This is entirely multi-fandom.
- When replying to an individual, please remember to comment ANONYMOUSLY, no matter your response. You may include time markers from the person's vids if need be.

I think leaving good contcrit is not easy and I view it as an act of generosity. My sense is even in these Truth Memes people are nervous to tell the truth, but I'd really love it if anyone would take the time.

Ooh, that's a great idea. I find I definitely don't get enough concrit and part of the reason is because I don't use betas. I think I'm too stubborn to even try. :/

Hee! Stubbornness is fair enough. It's your vid, you shouldn't have to do anything a beta says. I personally have no problem betaing for people that ignore me. :p But I do know what you mean.

Hmmm... fascinating idea.

Given that I'm gearing up to switching what I vid from BSG to SV, I'm tempted to sign my name up... but given that I've only seen two names on that list of subscribers I recognise, it seems egotistical for me to join in :P
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on January 28th, 2009 07:13 am (UTC)
Aww, well you never know... I think I signed up last year but didn't get any concrit. People are so shy!
brokenmnemonic: APC - Judithbrokenmnemonic on January 28th, 2009 07:27 am (UTC)
I only get 6 people watching my vids at the best of times, so my concrit comes from you and m_a_r_i_k_s... and I think I've had more good concrit in one set of draft comments from you than I'll get from most other people in a lifetime ;)

I take it I'm not allowed to say "you're an intimidating person to know as a vidder because your vids are so damn good even with songs I'm not keen on" would count as valid concrit if I went and left it anonymously...
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on January 28th, 2009 07:39 am (UTC)
Aww, I'd hope you know me well enough that you can say anything you like to me anyway, including 'dude, that vid? not so much'. And you're totally capable of converting me to music I'm not so there for, as you know!

One of the things I like about having a handful of vidders on my flist is that there are things I admire about all of them, but I don't envy any, if that makes sense?

I love DB's enthusiasm and passion. Vidding may involve angst, but she somehow turns it into one big, bouncing, inspiring squeeful hobby for everyone around her.

Mariks makes the most wonderfully complex vids, in every way possible - she bends and folds and likes and binds and breaks video clips and effects, producing vids I doubt anyone else could produce anything similar too; she's possibly the only person where the first couple of times I watch a vid, I realise afterwards I'm sitting there with my mouth open and can't remember anything other than "that was awesome."

Pi somehow manages to make vids that feel slow and langourous compared to anything I've ever made, and yet they don't feel as if they're lagging, like a lot of vids do; it's more like watching considered, detailed thoughts spreading out.

And there's you, of course - the multi-talented multi-fandom vidder, who can vid half a dozen fandoms with consumate ease, who has the narrative so firmlly in mind that when you vid there's never a wasted clip, not even a half second in a six minute song. Each vid you make is better than the last, and yet there's never a sense of you having hit any sort of ceiling because each is usually more complex than the last, too.

I have the best flist for vidding inspiration :)

What a sweet sentiment! I'd reply about you in kind, but you know I love your vids and I have squeed about them in the various threads. :-)

These sentiments come at a good time. I am full of vidding angst at the moment and not feeling that bouncy at all. But I will once I get past the latest challenge. And I will get past it. We have to be so . . . stubborn about learning. It's the only way.

Thanks again!

I have the best list for vidding help and inspiration too. :-)

This is the most awesomely warm fuzzy comment of loveliness. \o/ Thank you! you are way TOO kind about my vidding, but I do appreciate it, and even more I appreciate the talks we have about vidding--learning together is so much better than learning alone! And I love your comments about the others too. You should link to it or something to make sure the others see it. ;)

Heh I was the second person to post...and I put my vid link wrong! I deleted and posted a new comment at the end but it's massive thread.
It's really hard to give concrit for these vidders too because they're all so good!
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: True Blood Tarabop_radar on January 28th, 2009 07:15 am (UTC)
Aww, hang in there--I think it takes people a little while to think up good concrit. I know I have to go and remind myself of people's vids... and yeah I do find it hard to concrit a lot of those vidders. Fangirling is so much easier, you know? ;)

It is, it is. I just saw a vid on another comm the other day that I so wanted to give some concrit on but I held back because I wasn't sure it'd be welcome.

I'm trying to go systematically through the thread and check out the ones that pique my interest on each vidder's list, but I admit I'm biased towards the folks I already know/that do BSG vids.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on January 29th, 2009 11:14 am (UTC)
Oh, yeah, I never concrit if I don't know the person's open/invited it. I have one good vidder friend who definitely DOESn't want concrit--and I absolutely respect that as their right.

There's so many vidders it's impossible to get to them all... I wish I had more time.

I got your LJ message, but forgot to respond before leaving this morning. I'm not at my best on Friday mornings! I'll be around a little on Saturday (around going to Cardiff to visit a cobbler) and I'll be around all day Sunday, so is this weekend good for you?
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on January 30th, 2009 12:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah, should be. :) I'm not at my best at all at the moment due to three days in a row over 43C/110F, but it should have settled by then.
brokenmnemonic: WTF?brokenmnemonic on January 30th, 2009 04:35 pm (UTC)
I've managed to find a cobbler here (and I need to collect a parcel from the sorting office) so I'm likely to be around much more on Saturday than I thought - is that of any help? I have chilled fruit juice I can offer to share...

It's so fucking hot, it made me just throw up in my backyard at 4am in the morning. :(
