Smallville 8.15 Infamous
Ok, so my Smallville squee is kind of dead in the water at this point in time, guys, so my thoughts on Smallville this week were short and sweet.

1. I am glad Lois is back.
2. I am not glad the angst!Clois is back.
3. Davis finally made it back! I love to think of him slow-walking from the Arctic all these months... but wow, has he got more boring in the interim or something? Because his scenes with Chloe were pretty yawn-y.
4. Jimmy really drew the short straw when he married Chloe, huh? Apparently husbands are NEVER SEEN AGAIN.
5. I found it LOLarious that Clark was soooo popular so quickly. Um, has the Blur really done that much yet?
6. Martha was mentioned! \o/
7. Kinda bored by the whole plot because it was so obvious it would have to be retconned, but the Lois reaction scene was cute and I liked seeing him save her.
8. The barn scene was so baffling. What the fuck was Lois on about? And why does Clark not telling her his secret make her 'special'? *head scratchy*
9. Clark rolling back time right before Lois was going to reveal some Very Important Information about Davis seems like karma to me... more fool you for thinking Lois would never have anything important to say (even if her previous speech was admittedly gibberish)!
10. And finally... I have worked out Chloe's new role on Smallville! I should have twigged to this ages ago but I'm so used to her either A) explaining the plot (see Seasons 1-4) or B) being super!Chloe (see Seasons 5-7). Her new role is, apparently, to say the exact opposite of what Clark says, even if what Clark says is something she herself said earlier. Lightbulb moment! Her characterisation makes sense again! She has done this consistently all season. :)

For all other thoughts, I defer to kassandrajones's delightful minipic picspam recap.

1. Hell, who isn't glad Lois is back?
2. Not a big fan of the angst, either. I don't like seeing either of them in the position they were in that last scene of the episode.
4. Couldn't agree more! Where the hell is Jimmy!?
5. I would think that by this point the RBB would be a somewhat noticeable figure in Metropolis..not sure about elsewhere, though.
6. YAY for a Martha mention! That makes for one mention this entire season, right?
7. Just loved the whole Clark/Lois 'reveal' scene. Lois's reaction couldn't have been better.
8. I am glad I wasn't the only one lost in translation with this one scene..not really with Lois, but with Clark!
9. Clark is an idiot..plain and simple. I have to admit though it makes for a convenient plot device for the rest of the season!
10. So I wasn't the only one to notice this?

Clark being an idiot? Yeah, never gets old. Oh, wait. IT DOES! *sick of it*

IAWTP. In fact, the more I think and talk about this episode the more annoyed I am with it.

Mmmm hmm. A couple of good vid-able moments. That's all I got. :p

What the fuck was Lois on about?

Bad dialog? No, I think Lois was trying to indicate her feelings for Clark in an extremely roundabout way (i.e., without actually giving him any clear hint how she feels) and failing miserably in making any sense at all.

And why does Clark not telling her his secret make her 'special'?

... because he thinks people who know his secret are basically doomed to have all kinds of nasty things happen to them, and he doesn't want that for Lois? *shrug* I never said Clark made any sense.

Hee. Well no, I'm not seeing much sense. But here's hoping the dialogue's better this week.

but wow, has he got more boring in the interim or something?
For real! To me, he's been in a holding pattern character wise with only brief bursts of interest. I think the last one was when Faora told him who/what he actually is.

But I'm really tired of him sniffing around Chloe and bemoaning all his problems to her. If he's worried what his beastie side is going to do he should pull a Hulk and leave the city and go out to the middle of nowhere.

Yeah... his desperate attempts at denial seem a bit lame (and, you know, dangerous!) at this point in time.

I hated the Clois this week with the wee exception of the desk scene. She was so WHINY and OBVIOUS about her Clarklove and woe is me bullshit. So not the Lois I enjoy.

And Clark never grows or learns does he? Keeping your secret from her does not make her special nor keep her safe, you big lunkhead! And you could've taken a second to listen before pulling on that ring.

Davis is my favorite part so I'm glad he was back, even if it was just to pine/angst over Chloe (and you know, kill people). At least he did it quietly and was not all "YOU WILL NEVER LOVE ME, I KNOW IT, I COULD JUST SPROUT INTO SPIKY SKIN RIGHT HERE AND YOU WOULDN'T EVEN NOTICE! WAH"

Poor Jimmy. I don't even care about him and I care more than Chloe.

Not the Lois I enjoy either. I hope this was the end of it.

*rotfl* That is so DAVIS! *lol* *pats the troubled spiky one*

Tru dat.

It makes me laugh...but not in a good way...at how much work people are putting into trying to figure out the dialogue in the barn scene. How does the show not scream FAIL when it lets such confusing nonsensical dialogue make it on to the screen. And my heart just went out to Erica and Tom, because I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to try and sell that nonsense.

The way this show uses Chloe is so frustrating to me at this point.

LOL! Your observation about Chloe is very astute! I did notice how contradictory she was between her first scene with Clark and her last.

That barn scene was very confusing! But I think the actors did a good job trying to sell it. I think Lois was trying to declare herself without actually using the words I love you, and Clark was trying to say that he cares for her too much to a) expose her to the danger that comes with knowing his secret, or b) put her through the heartache of falling even more deeply in love with him (which it seems to me she did once she found out the truth about him) when he can't yet return those feelings. But yeah, I did a lot of fanwanking with that one. :)

Chloe said Clark had thrown himself into patrolling since Lana left, so I think he is supposed to have done a lot of rescuing recently. But the cop in Bulletproof also made it seem like the Red Blue Blur had become pretty well known, at least enough for his son to dress up as him.

I really did like the episode, but I think you know I'm not very demanding when it comes to this show. I love the actors, and I thought Tom and Erica in particular were wonderful in this one.

when he can't yet return those feelings
This is the bit that gets me, what's with the 'can't'? Either he does or he doesn't. He could try, I don't know, LOOKING at Lois for once? Actually thinking about her? And then if that didn't work, well maybe he should man up and say 'I just don't feel like that about you'. I'm finding Clark's coming off not that well in this whole plot and I do not like it. :(

Chloe said Clark had thrown himself into patrolling since Lana left, so I think he is supposed to have done a lot of rescuing recentl
Ah! I missed that nuance. ;)

Tom and Erica WERE wonderful. I just miss the days when I could get a lot out of the show in terms of visual symbolism. *pouts*

YES. She never agrees with Clark or HERSELF, it's a bit disturbing actually.

It's like Chloe's brain goes 'Clark is asserting an OPINION. Quick! Quick! I MUST SAY THE OPPOSITE ONE RIGHT NOW! Otherwise this entire scene is pointless!'

Yeah, exactly how I felt. It was all so rushed and parts of it felt almost dreamlike, that I couldn't get enthusiastic about the beginning of the episode at all. Except for the Lois bits, of course. It felt exactly like watching Reckoning except the consequence of Clark's actions within the episode wasn't anywhere near as emotionally shattering. Although I suppose it has the potential to be.

It was all so rushed and parts of it felt almost dreamlike Yup! I thought it was a dream at first! And no, it had nowhere near the emotional power of Reckoning. The Lois parts were great, of course, but it did feel like it fell short of potential.

0_0! I'm so touched that you rec'ed my recap! Thank you!

but wow, has he got more boring in the interim or something? Because his scenes with Chloe were pretty yawn-y.

I know! If they keep this up I might have to fast-forward through their scenes they're so boring.

Jimmy really drew the short straw when he married Chloe, huh? Apparently husbands are NEVER SEEN AGAIN.

Jimmy is so unappreciated and that makes me so sad. Episodes like "Identity" totally show the potential his character has and how awesome Aaron Ashmore is. If only they'd use him better.

And why does Clark not telling her his secret make her 'special'?

UGH. You know how that line kills me dead. I've been reading reviews and meta everywhere and have yet to find a satisfactory answer to this question.

Her new role is, apparently, to say the exact opposite of what Clark says, even if what Clark says is something she herself said earlier.

This is brilliant! It explains so much! She's more plot device than character at this point.

I wish they'd use Jimmy better too. I actually wish they'd invest time in both Jimmy and Lois's careers rather than treating them both just as love interests.

She's more plot device than character at this point.
Alas yes. She exists only because the Smallville writers refuse to embrace the concept of monologues. :p

"There is no such thing as happiness in this world."
That's SV in a nutshell. You know who I felt for? Tom Welling. I bet people fangirl him like the do Clark in this ep. Except don't be jumping from buildings, ladies. Goodness. We fans aren't that batshit.

Truth told, I don't know if I will keep watching SV. It's too . . . changeable, I never know what's going to happen, be reversed, and happen again. I like Lois and she looked wonderful in this ep. But I don't know if Clark is good enough for her, frankly.

Reading your reviews is the best part of watching this show.

Yeah, Tom is very private. Perhaps to keep the crazies at arm's length? :)

Smallville wasn't always like this. *sad*
