Smallville 8.16 Turbulence
Ok, so clearly someone on the Smallville writing staff believes there are still some Clex fans watching. However misguided this impression may be, I say we need to celebrate this.

Fic writers! seriously! DIARY ENTRIES. I wants them!

Dear Diary
Today I drove to the Kent farmhouse and presented Clark with a sword. I'm still not sure he got the symbolism even though I stroked it a lot. Afterwards I got kidnapped and nearly died but I woke up nicely rested in the Smallville General Hospital. Clark gave me a concerned lecture--very sweet! Just trying to work out how to capitalise on that... perhaps more scotch will inspire me!

PS. Got two new laminated pics of Clark for my special room. Whee!

OK, so how brilliant was Clark's squirmy freaked-out OMG-MY-SECRET-GAY-PAST-IS-REVEALED face?! :D And wow, is that the first time we've had canonical reference to him being able to hold alcohol well?

And I just heart Tess to pieces for completely playing Clark. I loved the way that all the pieces of her set up actually were drawn from Lex's personal narrative:
- An orchestrated plane crash where the pilot was paid off (Helen, anyone?)
- The heroic 'save' by Clark, with her left conveniently memory-less
- The testing of the implausiblity factors (like the parachute) and Clark shrugging those off
- The sharing of a personal secret in the hope of getting reciprocity (and not getting it!)
- Even the 'balcony' scene at the end was textbook Clex.

I looove that Tess manipulated the whole thing and I kind of want to believe she made up the whole childhood abuse story. She's really trying to play herself as the innocent but this whole plot played like she had read Lex's handbook on how to 'test' Clark. And she's just seen that everything that Lex wrote about Clark's responses was absolutely spot on.

I mourn Oliver's plane.

I did not like crazy!Jimmy. I would find it cute that someone could tame Davis's growliness with a touch if it wasn't Chloe that could do that. The acting that Sam Witner is putting in is absolutely fantastic--without that I would be finding the character pretty annoying by now but the way he manages to sell the denial, the self-justification, and the hope despite the horror is impressive.

It was great to have Tess back, but I also want Oliver and Lois! *frowns re annoying CW budgetary issues*

See? He is fantastic.

Ooh I miss Oliver now that you mention him.

The hub and I both thought last night's episode felt decidedly off-kilter. No one was acting like themselves (except maybe Tess, whose new hair was totally distracting.)

I was also annoyed by her convenient abusive background (just a lie, you think?)

I agree that there was much ooc acting (Jimmy particularly!) and I did find Tess's new hair disturbing. But yeah, I'd bet money on the abusive past being a lie to orchestrate an 'intimate' moment with Clark. I reckon Lex's diary would have clued her off that Clark loves to play the protective hero. She also made the I-opened-up-now-you-can point which I think was very deliberate.

Dude, no joke, back in the early days of SV and my newbie times on LJ (when I was a raving Clex-aholic) someone actually did write a Lex's Diary, complete with doodles. "Lex" wrote everything with a sparkly, scented pen and had a Jam & Glam Barbie.....those were some fun times and I totally smiled last night recalling them.

I need to step up and give Ms. Freeman and Mr. Witwer their due, they are doing a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to seeing their work in the future.

Hee! I love thinking about all the different possible permutations of Lex's diary.

And yes, Freemn and Witwer are both doing amazing work--it's gratifying to see new cast members take SV roles so seriously.

*raises hand* I iz Clex fan ... I iz watching!

And last night's ep was just awesome for the diary! I want to see some of those entries, seriously!!!!

Last night's ep was fun *g*

It was fun. I really especially liked the Clex bits. I'm still incredibly bitter that they 'killed' Lex in that hideous way, but I am pleased to see his memory alive on the show so well. And Tom really brought the hoyay back!

Didn't you know that Chloe can cure lots of ailments with a touch? Scrofula, leprosy, thrush...

At least she has a purpose. I guess?

An orchestrated plane crash where the pilot was paid off (Helen, anyone?)

Heh, heh! I say that Helen is Back! She's just disguised as Tess for some reason.

Smallville is coming back too. Good Episode.

And who says that the writers don't listen to the fans? The fans complained about Oliver's plane (where is his office?). So the writers blew that sucker up.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on March 21st, 2009 07:00 am (UTC)
Hee. I'd love Helen to be back in Tess's form. ;)

Aww, I liked the plane. Damn those fans who dissed it! And Tess seems to feel that now that she and Oliver are 'one' she can break all his toys...

Anyone who still denies the fundamental slashiness of the Clark-Lex interactions (is there anyone who still denies the fundamental slashiness of the Clark-Lex interactions?), I want to point them to this episode, so they can see how the almost exact same scenes play out when it's a woman taking the Lex role, how charged it all was.

Hee! This is so true. Though where those people who deny it are, I do not know. ;) I must say that I found the scenes slightly less charged with a woman. :p But yes. It was glorious to relive the sizzle.

This show was filled with unexpected Clex goodies this week, it made me so happy! \o/

DIARY ENTRIES. I wants them!

Me too! Me too! *raises hand and waves like a maniac*

OK, so how brilliant was Clark's squirmy freaked-out OMG-MY-SECRET-GAY-PAST-IS-REVEALED face?!

Ha ha, wasn't it just! I couldn't help it, I started laughing.

And I just heart Tess to pieces for completely playing Clark. I loved the way that all the pieces of her set up actually were drawn from Lex's personal narrative

Yes, yes, yes! I'm so glad you also see it. She was like a mini-Lex, so Luthoresque!
Brilliantly played from her side.

I also think she made up the childhood abuse story. I think she just wanted a big secret to share with Clark, to try and get him to share his secret with her. And when it didn't happen she gave the order to crash the plane. Ha ha. I love this woman!

I laughed too! Joyfully! :D I totally agree with you about Tess--I figured it was all ploy from the start and I think it's just so beautifully Lexian. She really has learned from him! And interesting that she's taking over his role most just after she broke up with him and he died... I am in total denial that Lex is dead so WHEN he comes back, there's going to be some interesting scenes. ;)
Nora Norwichnorwich36 on March 20th, 2009 07:30 pm (UTC)
I too commented on the Lexian nature of Tess' plot, but I like the way you have gone into all the specific details of how it is Lexian. (And I also want to see the diary, dammit!)

Thanks! I'm off overseas soon so if I don't speak to you before then, see you when I get back! ;)

I *Died* when i saw the trailer and how blatently and how well Tom played the Clex subext, when he asked if Lex talked about him, i was liked "Clark I think Lex knew it wouldn't be a good idea to talk about his love affair with a teenage boy so just relax okay, hun?"

But while the staff have always pushed the idea of Tess standing in for Lex, they really pushed here not only because the Luthorian way she tried to manipulate him but that ending shot of her standing in the mansion, reminded me we had that very same image of Lex doing the same thing....in fact wasn't there a promo pic of Michael-as-lex that was just like that? Except of course he dressed black and she was in white.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Clois runbop_radar on March 21st, 2009 07:12 am (UTC)
Yes, I love the way they're playing with Tess taking over Lex's role even more now he is 'dead'.

And I totally had to pause mid-episode when it got to Clark's freak out! And the way he went 'phew!' when he thought the danger had passed. ;) SO FUNNY. Yeah, Lex wasn't going to record his pedophilic tendancies in writing... SURELY!?

LOL at your diary entry. Though I would like to see them too. :D

And I just heart Tess to pieces for completely playing Clark.
She's so awesome! Cassidy is a wonderful actress. &hearts :D

Poor Ollie's plane ... there goes his home. I wonder what set they'll give him now.

Sam is a great actor ... I really am scared of him when he shifts to Doomsday and I think that's how it is supposed to be.

I missed Ollie and Lois too. The Lois/Tess dynamic is fun. :D
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on March 21st, 2009 07:10 am (UTC)
Lovely Tess icon! I didn't realise how much I'd missed her until she came back. :) But I'm getting frustrated at these partial casts all the time...!

It's kind of funny. Back in the day, I was into Smallville because I liked the characters so much, even if the acting was often questionable at best. Now the acting kicks ass (Ashmore and Witner especially in this one) and I have hard time figuring out exactly what to think about the characters. I did enjoy Tess a lot in this episode, though, and liked Clark a lot better here than in the last episode.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Kara/Lee lolbop_radar on March 22nd, 2009 05:28 am (UTC)
That's so true! The acting IS better than the characters/writing now. How bizarre...
