Sarah Connor Chronicles axed
I am devastated.

I ... really hung on to hope.

Apologies to Dollhouse supporters but I can't believe Dollhouse got renewed and T:SCC got canned. Or rather, I can believe it and I think it says a lot about the ugly reality of network television.

Damn it, damn it, damn it. *sad*

This week needs to pick its game up, news-wise. Over to you, American Idol! If Adam Lambert does not win, I will be punching puppies, a la Kristen from 'Idolatry'.

Unfortunately (clearly) the world does not bend to my will.

*returns to some manuscripts that will*

ETA: Apparently Ausiello may have been basing that on previous advice, not the news that was/is due today, the 18th. Does anyone know anything more definite?
ETA2: And now it's definite. Josh Friedman's announcement is extremely gracious.
ETA3: The transcript of Friedman, Ashman and Thomsen in the SCC chat room is super-cool and soothing me greatly right now. Though apparently it was Fox or nothing. SyFy no go, and Ashman will be 'curling up with the DVDs' now. For those of you that can't be bothered reading the whole thing, my personal favourite chat gems were:
- Friedman saying he'd written a part from a dog's perspective and it was awesome (I want that!)
- Friedman saying we would have found out what happened in the basement in Season 3.
- Friedman saying Derek was never considered a love interest for Sarah (phew!)
- Dan admitting he wrote Trek fanfic when he was young and saying "the ONLY two other male characters in genre who have more chemistry than Kirk and Spock are Clark and Lex". Duh! *hearts*
- Oh, and Friedman saying he liked 'the first three seasons' of BSG. Hahaha, with you, mate.

I with you on Dollhouse getting picked up and not SCC.... I guess Dollhouse has more sex and partially clothed women. *snorts*
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: TSCC Sarahbop_radar on May 18th, 2009 08:07 am (UTC)
Right. The more women prostituting themselves (literally) the better, it seems. The Dollhouse preview ad often flies up on my Sarah Connor screen and slimes all over it... eww! The contrast between the two shows is so striking.

NOT to get your hopes up unfairly, but as far as I've seen there has NOT been "official" word from anyone that the show is over.

Ausiello seems to be going off of the "supposed FOX schedule" that was out there.

I think chances are rather slim, but I don't believe it's dead until the network, the studio, or someone closely involved confirms it. Certainly not Ausiello.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: TSCC Cameronbop_radar on May 18th, 2009 08:04 am (UTC)
Really? I had assumed, since we knew word would come on the 18th that they were going off said word on the 18th. Huh. Thanks for the advice.

I actually stayed up late tonight to rewatch the last two episodes of T:SCC.

So very, very saddened by the news. That show had some truly kick-ass women. And I guess I'll never know if my theory was right - that Savannah grew up to lead the fight against Skynet since John disappeared into the future.
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!bop_radar on May 18th, 2009 08:19 am (UTC)
That's a cool theory! Savannah is fascinating. I feel like there is so much more of the story to tell! But all may not be lost... apparently Ausiello (which is who most people are quoting as saying it is axed) may not have heard anything more than what we already knew: that a decision is being made today.

Now I'm back to nail-biting.

I am crossing everything that someone out there in TV network land has the good sense to appreciate this show for the potential it has and DOES ALREADY show *cough unlike a certain other show possibly named Everybody Loves Eliza cough*...hmmm I won't hold my breath though due to serious fear of turning blue and falling over.

Yeah... good thing you didn't hold your breath.

I love Eliza too. But not enough to love that show. And right now SCC is the one show I love that has not gone to shit. At least it went out PURE and PERFECT.

I read that last night before going to bed. :(
I'm happy Dollhouse got renewed, but if I had a choice I'd pick TSCC over Dollhouse. I actually care for the characters on TSCC, and don't just enjoy the show as something shiny. And it will kill me if we never get a hint of what season 3 would have been about, finale had such a brilliant set up. :/

It did! I hope Friedman eventually gives us some clues. What he said in chat at SCC (link above) made me wish even MORE that we'd got to see what he had in mind.

Oh, dear! That makes me want to savor the last few eps I haven't seen yet. No sweat about the vid, btw. I was just checking in because I'm excited. If you don't want to use the last few eps, that's fine with me (I don't yet know what happens, so I'm not sure what the issues are). Maybe once I've seen them I might have some helpful thoughts?
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: TSCC Derekbop_radar on May 18th, 2009 10:08 pm (UTC)
Savour away! They are GOLDEN.

The vid is actually tearing along now (timeline nearly full), and very reliant on the later episodes--I'm actually not sure now that I could have pulled it off without them. It's very much the ensemble piece--about all the resistance characters.

dudski recently pointed out "...Sunday nights go to animation and Saturday nights go to Cops and AMW, they do local news at 10, which leaves the network ten hours a week to work with. Four renewals, three new pickups, two hours of SYTYCD's fall season...that left Dollhouse and T:SCC to fight for the last spot." If they renewed T:TSCC, they'd have to change their programming again. I hope that's wrong, but I doubt it.

I'm totally rainging on the parade. but I don't recall SciFi picking up new episodes of a series that they did not create. I could be wrong, but I don't think they take up things that aren't their brand originally.

Yeah... I know Friedman says not to focus on Dollhouse, but it does seem like they got the slot over Terminator. I'd be a lot more comfortable with that were it not such a contrast in gender politics.

I've said it before, if TSCC is not renewed since it had higher ratings than 'Dollhouse', I'll be pissed. But, the reason for the renewal is the studio (and Joss) agreed to slash the budget in order to secure a second season. What does that mean? I don't know. There could be less dolls next years, less location shoots, less writing staff. Alan Tudyk's 'V' got picked up for six episodes so Alpha's ability to return might be limited or non-existent.

K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: TSCC Cameronbop_radar on May 18th, 2009 09:33 pm (UTC)
I know!! Terminator's ratings were picking up at the end of the season, whereas Dollhouse was slipping. I can't imagine Dollhouse surviving that much longer. Whereas, Terminator had momentum and the new movie would have meant promos around and raised the profile... I think it's a bad commercial decision as well as a bad aesthetic one.

Unfortunately, it isn't just Ausiello getting confirmation now. :( One of the writers is moving his office over to Fringe as I type this.

I, like you, dislike Dollhouse to a great degree, but since it is a FOX production they don't actually lose money on the licensing fee; it just moves around the company. Also, Dollhosue has had to slash their budget (rumor is by 30% unconfirmed) they are losing 8 minutes of airtime due to the change in way Fox handles commercials, Fox has demanded A LOT of changes, and added performance clauses to the contract. So it either comes back as an entirely new show that brings in new viewers, or it gets canceled too.

Ok, that helps make a little sense of why they're keeping Dollhouse on.

Ok that quote from Dan about Clark and Lex just made me grin a crazy grin. Because seriously if *other* people can see, then I feel fully justified in pushing this ship on my friends.

I feel like SCC, is one of those shows that *never* had the the chance to live up to it's potentional, because people already knew the endgame, or thought they did. Like Kings. It makes me angry when people whine about John, or Clark, or David being whiney and emo, when they're teens. Hello!?!?!? These boys are 15-18, that allows them to be whiney and emo, doesn't mean they do.

Give them a break, for god's sake

It's always pleasing to see the Clex acknowledged. ;)

Mmm... interesting theory about SCC and knowing the final game... because I do have that issue with Kings--I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be invested in, and so I can see how that unsettles an audience.

I think Terminator had this problem: it was an intelligent action show, and action fans aren't used to intelligence, and intelligent audiences aren't used to turning to action shows for their fix.

I am so very upset about this. Too upset to join in the pancake party just yet. :-(

I don't care if it was a money decision, I feel like writing to Fox and saying I'm boycotting all their shows next season because they are LOSERS who don't know a stellar show when they see it.

I was all psyched to find Dollhouse on-line to watch (as I had seen a lot of squee about another Joss show) - then I read what it was about. I was squicked just from the description. No. Just a world of fucking NO, Joss.

Oh, man, and it's every bit as bad (and worse) than it sounds. I watch it because everyone keeps telling me it 'gets better' and because I'm trying to work out how Joss could go so terribly horribly wrong... but I've never been more offended by a tv show. Except possibly Heroes and Supernatural. Oh. Ok... I'm sexism-sensitive. But is THAT SUCH A BAD THING?!
