BSG webisodes
Um... is anyone else having a 'huh?!' reaction with these? I just... I know they're short, and I know they're about side characters and I know they have a limited budget and all, but seriously I couldn't be more underwhelmed. The S3 trailers though?! WOAH. *loves*

Aquaman
I watched the Aquaman pilot over the weekend. The echoes of Smallville were surreal--it all felt so familiar. From the character and plot construction to the cinematography and the ott phallic imagery (lighthouse! *dies*). Apart from the weird deja-vu-ness I was actually pretty impressed. I think Aquadude is gorgeous and a great actor. He had some terribly flat lines to work with (heh! no surprise there!) and managed to bring real emotion to them. I also loved the evilFishyGirl--Kara!girl was genuinely frightening in that role. The special effects were brilliant (loved the plane-Aquadude chase sequence) and I had a lot of fun watching the pilot (though I was sad that the hot guy with the message and matching glowy seahorse necklace had to die--coz WOAH with the slash potential!). I actually experienced a momentary pang of regret that the show didn't get the go-ahead. Though I'm delighted that they co-opted it's best asset to be on Smallville in Season 6. Woo! (I would have loved him to have played opposite Lois in Aqua--ah well.)

Who is Lou Diamond Phillips? Which character did he play? The older guy? *could totally look this up but is lazy*

And yeah, it's available from iTunes.

Ah! He was the vaguely familiar old guy who kept looming up with Advice for young Aquadude! ;-) Um, well he wasn't bad, but he was handed some truly terrible dialogue in the form of exposition twaddle about Atlantis, so the content of his speeches somewhat overshadowed his acting ability. I'm sure in later eps he would have settled into the role but in the Pilot he was all about exposition. There was some quirk potential in his first act as mentor being to get young Aquadude to read Shakespeare's Henry IV! *amused*

You know, I haven't actually gotten around to watching any of the webisodes after the first one, and now it sounds like I shouldn't waste my time downloading them!

Hee! I'll let you know if anything interesting occurs in them! ;-) I wouldn't waste your bandwidth.

Oh good! I'm glad someone is enjoying the webisodes (and thinking about them--hee!). In principle I think there interesting--but I haven't enjoyed the execution. It's unusual for me to find any BSG characters boring but somehow these ones? *yawns* Like you, I find the redheaded guy and his wife completely baffling--that is the very last circumstances under which I could imagine wanting to have a kid. Usually BSG is good at getting me inside the head of a character I wouldn't naturally relate to--but those two are just baffling to me. I guess that's one reason I'm disappointed.

But I do hope the webisodes lead somewhere in terms of showing the result of the Cylon occupation and the mindset of those under it.

I had to click on the Aquaman tag to find out why you had an Aquaman tag in the first place.

How much do I love character descriptions like "evilFishyGirl"? Heheheh.

Hey, Aquaman would have ROCKED! It starred Justin Hartley (Green Arrow) and evil!Fishygirl was Adrienne--Kara from FNL!!! So sad it died a miserable death. ;)

So... Aquaman starred the future Green Arrow from Smallville, not the Aquaman who actually appeared in Smallvile? So Lois has dated even more superheroes than she thought!

Kara from FNL, Kara from FNL... I'm drawing a blank. Who's Kara?

I just spent a little while reading your end of S2 BSG posts - I don't think I knew you back then, but it's fascinating reading back through your posts and the attached comments.

Although I'm meant to be working...

Absolutely! The production crew twigged that Aquadude on SV was a bad actor. ;) (At least that's my take on it!)

And sorry, sorry, I'm having brain spasms as it's 10pm and I've only just stopped work--I meant Tyra. (But wrote 'Kara' because I am writing a BSG post---weeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiird, I know!)

Oh! S2! *quakes* No, we didn't know each other then... I am kind of embarrassed to imagine what my immature early-fan squee was like. *blush*

Lois seemed to like him ;) I must admit, I find the idea of an Aquaman series vastly humourous, for reasons I can't quite define. "And this week... another fish!"

You've only just stopped work? That sounds pretty extreme. I hope this isn't work forced on you by evil publisher woman?

Your early S2 posts are interesting, and I like reading the debates between you and - you made some fascinating points about being able to yank BM and Scar out of S2 without affecting character continuity or plotlines at all - and in fact, they made later episodes make more sense.

I feel very sad, reading about S2 - I spent so long keeping a good mood up, and it turned out that actually, Kara/Anders has been a big thing ever since. Couldn't Anders just have died in an appropriately cliched way? Ah well.

SAME! *giggles* I was SO there for the crack-ness!

No... work was unforced. It's just that this book is mesmerisingly flawed and I am drawn to fix it up. I keep sighing and deleting. It's just... it's been edited and proofread but it's still a MESS. And my ego's kicked in and is telling me I'm the only one for the job! ;)

Yeah... that's the same reason I can't go back to Season 2. I remember how I fought off the feeling of doom that came with Anders's arrival in the show. But it was all in vain! I am more and more convinced we need to write our own canon because it would be better. *nods*

"This week, we're saving the tuna!"
"Didn't we do that last week?"
"No, last week we saved the cod!"
"Oh, right. So... why did god invent the porpoise anyway? A joke the creationists haven't got yet? And is it true about you and that halibut?"

And my ego's kicked in and is telling me I'm the only one for the job! ;)
Determined to rescue sculpture from broken glass? That does sound like you :) Dare I ask what the book's about? The phrase 'mesmerisingly flawed' is fascinating :)

I remember people like madamesosostris assuring everyone that it was just a plot device, that there's no way they'd keep two of their big four leads emneshed in a plot with bit-part characters for any length of time, because it would kill the ratings and derail the story. *stares blankly*

Well, I guess those legions of Anders fans helped keep the viewing ratings up, right? Oh, wait... the ratings have gone down every season.

The shippers on skiffy did discuss writing their own canon bible of how the episodes should've been, and I know mlsky writes highly porny snippets for scenes that should've been in each episode... but I find it intensely depressing that Anders has been around for something like half the episodes now.

OK, I need chocolate...

Anders should have been taken out back and shot a long time ago. As a concept, as a character, whatever. But yeah why are you wallowing in BSG unhappiness? Go watch some Clois instead! Oh are you at work though?

Oh! I remember why I called her 'Kara'. It's cause she also played a Kryptonian called Kara on an ep of Smallville.
brokenmnemonic: Clois - Strange Timebrokenmnemonic on December 4th, 2008 11:45 am (UTC)
But not Supergirl, who was also called Kara?

Hang on a second - Kara glowing light person who led Clark to the cave and who had been genetically manipulated by someone into having a false memory or something?

Yes, I need to do a rewatch badly :P
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Bop_radar TWbop_radar on December 4th, 2008 12:21 pm (UTC)
Yes, vaguely like that! :) A human who died in a car crash and who Jor-El used briefly as an avatar. Thee one who showed up naked at his house. Adrienne is a really good actress--she was completely un-Tyra-like in that role.
brokenmnemonic: Clois - Squishybrokenmnemonic on December 4th, 2008 12:42 pm (UTC)
Wait, the actress who plays Tyra was naked on Smallville? Ok, I'm going to be doing a rewatch ASAP... Has someone told Landry? Or do people in Dillon not watch SV? ;)

Oddly, I was reading the script for fade to see what the direction comments were, and some of it's hilarious... I'd forgotten it was the episode with the obligatory "spy on Lois in the shower" scene, not to mention the line "so why is Clark Kent so interested in my love life?"
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Clois runbop_radar on December 4th, 2008 10:25 pm (UTC)
Yup, she did. There should be an SV/FNL crossover in which Dillon plays Smallville High. Hee!

Can't wait for Fade! :D
