Vid recs
I haven't exactly been here a lot recently. It's partly the usual introspective mood that descends on me at this time of the year, what with birthday and new years resolutions to be made, and partly vidding woes. Every day I wake up all genki and determined that today will be the day I conquer them, but alas, so far no progress. Woe is Boppy.

But that's all very tedious and boring, so I'll distract you with pretty things made by other people instead. I've been playing on imeem a LOT, and am in the process of developing my own playlists as rec lists. However, they're still a work in progress at the moment (though please feel free to surf around them in the meantime).

The following vids are outstanding works that I've found in the last month or so. I've tried to provide both the imeem link (where available) and the LJ link, as LJ is still more friendly for feedback dialogue with the vidders, and, of course, for downloads! :-) Hopefully there's something here for everyone...

Whatever It Takes: This has become one of my all-time favourite mood-lifting vids. I'm a big fan of the movie Bend it like Beckham, but watching this vid I wonder whether I'll ever need to watch the film again, because this vid takes the film and condenses its essence into four minutes of pure joy, emotion and laughter. Everyone needs to see this vid. Seriously! I defy you not to smile at it!

I enjoy being a girl: This vid has been recced just about everywhere, and rightly so. But in case anyone out there hasn't seen it, I rec it again! It's another great mood-lifter: a multi-fandom one, featuring some of fandom's favourite kickass heroines (Sydney, Buffy, Starbuck, Veronica and Zoe). In need of a girlpower moodlift? Get some here! (You can also watch it streamed at imeem.)

Into the Fire brings the angst a little more: it's a Doctor (Nine and Ten)/Rose vid, and it was great to revisit that plot before watching the recent Christmas special. I have a soft spot for this vid especially because it uses Ten so well. I'm one of those unusual souls who prefer Ten to Nine, but both Doctors are integrated well in this vid, and the song's perfect. (imeem link)

Cells: This is another one of those vids that boils a movie down to its very essence... and what a ride it is when that movie is Fight Club! Major spoilers for the movie if you haven't seen it. The pacing, the cutting of this vid is so elegant, so pacy, that I can watch it over and over for hours. The song'ss got a really addictive beat, cynical lyrics and a dark, dark undercurrent that really comes into its own when cut with this vid. (imeem link)

Destiny Calling: The superheroes hype vid! It integrates footage from X-Men, Spiderman, Superman, Daredevils, The Incredibles, Fantastic 4 and Batman in a breathtakingly fast-paced action vid. What do we love so much about superheroes?! DESTINY. (imeem link)

No Ordinary Love: I've never seen the movie Lost and Delirious that is the source for this vid, and I don't particularly like the song, but it didn't matter one bit. This is a gorgeous femslash vid that captures the euphoric highs and devastating lows of teen crushes. Perhaps 'slash' is the wrong term if it's textual... anyway it's gorgeously erotic and it completely sold me on the central character. I wondered if the movie itself would annoy me (adolescent angst doesn't always make for good cinema even if it does make for good vids!) but it certainly made me curious about it.

Hee, got it! Well I was really intrigued after the vid but I wasn't sure if the vid had 'lifted' the content into something better than it was or not. But I'll putthe movie on the 'to see' list now.

I look forward to watching these when I am back home. (Sigh. My parents have high speed but NO SPEAKERS on their computer, so there's just no point!)

Ooooh, I loved the multi-fandom "enjoy being a girl" one, and the Lost and Delirious one. I agree with the above comment: it is an exceptionally good movie. It walks a fine line between teen angst and melodrama, but the performance by Piper Perabo is just dead-on, really gorgeous stuff.

Cool. I'll put it on the 'to watch' list then. 'Being a girl' is just sooo much fun, and the Lost and Delirious really swept me away.

Thank you. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. I can't rip from half of Season 3. And Season 3 is crucial to teh Clex! *weeps* I tried to start another project today but my heart's not in it...

Can I help? Which episodes do you need? I'm ripping Season 3 right now for my latest vid. I can send you a DVD with the VOB files.

Oh wow! My stars must have come good or something, because I've just had a breakthrough. supacat came round last night and for some reason she can rip from them on her macbook, though I can't on mine. So I should be alright if I can get her to rip the scenes I need. But thanks heaps for the generous offer! A day ago I would totally have taken you up on it because I was in despair! Anyway, I will work on the vid a little more but might need a beta in a week or so if your offer still stands?! :-)

Oh, wonderful! I'm glad things are working themselves out.

And yes, I'd be very happy to help beta.

Happy New Year!!!
