FNL vid recs, a DW observation, and random meme
Friday Night Lights vid recs
I haven't posted many vid recs in ages, and I have a bit of a backlog which I hope to get to soon, but as a start I have a treat (two treats!) today for the Friday Night Lights fans on my friendslist. And for anyone who wants to know why you should watch this show... start here, with two amazing vids from chasarumba:

Something Beautiful is a Tami character study and an incredibly eloquent portrait of motherhood. It captures Tami's strength and determination, as well as her struggles and her fragility. It's a beautiful tribute to one of my favourite female characters on television. Tami is at once ordinary and extraordinary--I guess that's true of motherhood as well--and this vid captures that perfectly.

Let The Sun Fall Down is a vid I should have watched a long, long time ago. But for anyone else like me that hasn't seen it: it is THE perfect Friday Night Lights vid. *calls it* It's beautiful and heartbreaking and spine-tingly and full of HEART. It would have made me miss the show, except that I can just put it on repeat, stick my headphones on, sing along and tear up all over again...

Doctor Who
I should only watch episodes written by Stephen Moffat. Seriously. The others this season have bored me to sleep. These were awesome! Can't wait til he writes for runs the show full-time. This double-parter prompted me to rewatch 'Blink' too, and it was every bit as awesome as I remembered.

Anyway, the silly observation I wanted to make was that 'CAL' was unintentionally verfremdungseffekt-ed for me due to the fact that it stands for Copyright Agency Limited, an institution that has more than a little to do with libraries! (It collects and distributes royalties based on works photocopied in institutions like libraries and schools). It cracked me up through the entire episode. Especially when the little girl was all 'they said CAL?!! Noooooooo! My world falls apart!' :D Guess you had to be there work in the publishing industry...

That personality type meme doing the rounds
For anyone that's interested, this is me.

He won't be writting the show full time, he'll run the show ;) Basically, like Joss Whedon for Buffy, writting a few eps, but just managing the other writers. They don't have writers room in the UK though, so I suspect the only real impact will be seen in what seasonal arc they have, not individual episodes.

Grr. I suspect he won't be nearly so good at that. How tedious.

I kind of fell out of watching the show the show lately and missed Moffat's two-parter *sheepish* I think The Doctor's Daughter horrified me to such an extent that I needed a break heh

The only episode that I've really loved this year was the The Fires of Pompeii, I thought that one was awesome!

*cough* You need to dl and watch it! *cough*
Agatha Christie episode was also fun, though a bit silly. :)

But yes, The Doctor's Daughter was dreadful for me too.

The Doctor's Daughter was DREADFUL. I understand. The Fires of Pompeii, you're right, was probably a highlight. The Agatha Christie one was the other bearable ep for me before the two-parter.

So you don't like Donna? I like her!
And we have the exact same personality type, according to that quiz....makes sence I suppose

I do like Donna a lot. I just don't like the writing this season for the most part. It annoys me because I want to fangirl Donna, but she's not been enough to get me through the bad eps, I'm afraid.

I also loved the episode, it was very well written and emotional.
I also loved River. :D

I didn't warm to River that much, but I loved the story and for that reason I could run with it. And yeah, it had quite the emotional punch!

I thought you would like that one! :) It really is amazing. I'm so glad someone made a Tami vid like that.

Seriously? *looks at episode funny*

Seriously! We talk about 'CAL' money--it's become very lucrative, but there are lots of arguments over how it should work now that it's more common for libraries to scan books or keep them electronically.

This just goes to show... copyright is taking over the world ;)

Thank you for the vid recs - hopefully I'll get to download them on the weekend, if not before :)

I def'ly recommend them. Must sees! And once you've watched Dexter, the same vidder has my favourite Dexter vids as well. :)
