Fullfilling the 'post more often' part of my new year resolutions
It's back to work for me this week, but I'm not going to dwell on that. I've been busily pursuing my resolutions, hooray.

I went to my first concert of the year: Lykke Li at the Prince of Wales. She was fabulously charismatic and I was impressed with her thoughtful approach to the concert. But the crowd was weird. Lots of over-dressed, overly-made-up 18 year olds. I saw someone take a friggin' wine glass into the front row. WT...? Kids these days. *tsks* And no-one danced. Of course. (Clarification: I danced and so did my late-20s companion.) The support band was one of the worst I've ever seen. Yes, even including The Bumblebeez.

I am feeling completely lukewarm (at best) about the impending beginning of Season 4.5 of Battlestar Galactica. I found the Gaetasodes too boring to continue with. When the last one gets released I'll mainline them. However callmeonetrack's battlestarbook completely delights me.

I'm making a vid that is totally devouring about 80% of my brainspace on a daily basis. It's ... challenging. I don't know if I can pull it off but the exercise itself is so interesting I can't give up. My desire to vid is so strong I have to use it as a reward for other behaviour (since there's a lot on that '2009 to do' list *g*). Speaking of which... *toodles*

It is! I think I'm starting from a position of wanting it to do/show everything and gradually paring it back... it's an ensemble vid but I think I need to focus in on a few characters to avoid it being too hard to follow--so I'm at the stage of making some hard calls there.

Hey remember how you said you were thinking of hosting a challenge for people to do different books in facebook style?

Look what I just saw in a publishing rights guide. Dutton/Plume is publishing it in the US in Fall 09:

OPHELIA JOINED THE GROUP MAIDENS WHO DON’T FLOAT: A Facebook Guide to Literature
(September, Non-fiction)

What began as an internet phenomenon on McSweeney’s became Sarah Schmelling’s OPHELIA JOINED THE GROUP MAIDENS WHO DON’T FLOAT. This laugh-out-loud book brings all of our favorite literary characters to life in today’s hectic and overly-connected cyber world, delightfully re-imagining them in the language of Facebook. Composed of 50 to 100 short vignettes, readers find stories about everyone from Oedipus Rex and Jane Eyre to Huck Finn and Lolita. For example, Jane Austen’s Mrs. Bennet will use her status update to find suitors for her daughters and will celebrate their eventual weddings with one big “Mrs. Bennet is WEDDINGS.”

This creative spoof on the most pervasive new technology will serve as a compelling way to breathe new life into the characters we’re most familiar with, making their stories accessible and fun for the plugged-in generation.

Sarah Schmelling is a journalist and humor writer. She has written for the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, Spin, Variety, and McSweeney’s.

More posting from you...YEAH!!

I hate concerts when the crowd is...weird. The last concert I went to was for a band I really love but the crowd just skewed so young that, until I got right up front, it was almost awkward. They were just too into the whole angst for angst sake. And don't get me wrong, I love my black nail polish and eyeliner just as much as the next girl when it's appropriate and the occasion calls for it. But I'm well beyond the posing aspect of it. So yeah weird crowds can suck the life out of a concert.

Best of luck with the vidding...I love having that creative desire though it often proves more frustrating before it's fulfilling. Going over to check out taragel's battlestarbook. :)

Oh I think I would have preferred the emo crowd to what I had! This crowd was full of metrosexuals and girls in heels, dangly earings and halter tops with wine glasses in hand. It's not a coctail party, people!

And yeah, I find it really amusing to go to concerts nowadays and not be affected by that whole posing thing. I was always so self-conscious when I was younger but now I couldn't care less and it feels so pointless to care!

Oh I'd much prefer the emo crowd to what you had to deal with. I can't stand hipsters/metrosexuals...they're all over DC and it's just so...boring. How about some originality people?

I've found that I'm beyond caring as well. Which is why my wardrobe has turned into black tanks/shirts and jeans...shoes and accessories determined by what kind of event I'm going to. It makes life so much easier.

Hee! Sounds good. I am attracted to colour but I stopped wearing make-up a loooong time ago and my clothes never get ironed.

You are in the ZONE, chica. Awesome.

The zone has been lost! :( A cold descened on my head. Again. Boo.

At least the concert was good?

I am going to my first concert in absolutely ages....this weekend. I just love Nick Cave and my husband surprised me with tickets to the all tomorrow's parties festival at Mt Buller this coming weekend...I can't wait.

"I am feeling completely lukewarm (at best) about the impending beginning of Season 4.5 of Battlestar Galactica."

I was a little like that a few months ago, but my great rewatch (completed new years day) has injected me with a rabid enthusiasm...I can't wait. I have not watched the webisodes yet, I am saving them all up to watch at once, just prior to the first ep of season 4.5

Ohh, I hope you have fun at Nick Cave! I remember you like him. :)

I meant to rewatch but I feel like 4.0 crushed all the joy out of my soul. I didn't talk about it in my journal but I feel like I've lost the show I loved. So I couldn't bring myself to... if 4.5 manages to redeem things I may feel up for one, otherwise I may ceremoniously burn the later seasons and go wallow in some early season awesome instead. ;)

It's cool that you're feeling hyped though.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that... I'm on the exact opposite side: I'm feeling really excited!!! (but I guess that's because I'm prety new to the fandom, and I watched the first three seasons less than a year ago...). Anyway, I'm sure 4.5 is going to be great! :) (btw, I haven't watched all the webisodes yet... I found them a little bit boring, too ;( ).

Oh, and best of luck with the vidding!! (you seem really excited about it... and that's sounds great!).
smact46smact46 on January 8th, 2009 03:05 am (UTC)
I have just finished a bsg rewatch, and I am feeling really excited too. It really helped renew my enthusiasm, and the whole thing made more sense to me.

It must have been great for you to watch the first three seasons of BSG fresh like that without having to suffer through as many withdrawals between seasons as I have!

I can't wait for 4.5 now, it's been quite a ride
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Leebop_radar on January 9th, 2009 04:39 am (UTC)
Yes, I feel a bit bad about it! A little bit guilty. Honestly, I wish I was there with you guys being all excited. I was very excited for Season 4 when it started but then it broke my heart, only I tried to pretend it didn't and that didn't end well... I can't pretend this time. I think the show I loved is lost. But I still love all the fans and I'll be in this ride to the end. I hope it delivers for those of you still excited/hopeful! And if it's really good, it will win me back.

Thank you for the kind wishes with vidding!
