Australian publishing industry statistics
The book industry is roughly equivalent to the toothpaste industry in the size of revenue.

Australia is the only country where distribution is a core activity of the book industry (due partly to the fact that we are a 'dumping ground' of English texts
published overseas and partly to our geography)

At any one time there are around 5000 publishable manuscripts in circulation around Australian publishing houses.

150 (of 9000) publishers produce 80% of the profit.
