Hello all! I have returned from my travels. Don't worry--I won't bore you with every last detail of my journey--suffice to say that there were some downs as well as many ups. (*cough* missed flight *cough*--those are actual coughs, btw--I caught the most persistent flu bug four days into my trip and still have it!)

The punchy touristy highlights were:
- my grandmother being alive and well and munching cheezels like they were going out of fashion...
- indulging my nostalgic taste for stodgy Scottish pub food (skirlie! mmmm)
- visiting the town where cult 80s film Local Hero was filmed (anyone with me on this? The telephone box is still there on the shore front! I ate dinner at the pub!)
- tour of Glenfiddich distillery (whisky smells really gooood when it's being brewed!)
- a lovely walk over the cliffs to Dunnottar Castle, marred only by my mothers plaintive moaning in the background
- watching my boy go all squee-y over aircraft museums that I thankfully didn't have to accompany him to (very amusing)
- daffodils, punting and libraries-to-die-for in Cambridge
- a beautiful wedding at posh English country hotel--best of all was having my four lovely cousins in the same room for the first time in twenty years! *loves them*
- visiting the Globe with my friend Sarah, followed by a wonderfully overpriced 'flight' on the London Eye
- watching MTVAsia for two days with a fever (mmm, interesting experience!) in a Kuala Lumpur guesthouse
- finally venturing further than the pharmacy and getting in some great shopping and yummy food eating
- visiting the slick Petronas twin towers in a brief burst of sunlight between tropical storms so we could kind of see something
- trekking across Malaysia to Kota Bahru ('The Islamic City'), on route to the idyllic Perhentian islands
- beachside chalet on said islands, complete with deckchair beneath palm tree, fresh bbq fish at night, mango smoothies and snorkelling

Fangirly highlights were (there actually were some!):
- getting to watch Cheaper by the Dozen 2 on the plane (mm, yummy Tommy!), as well as a couple of House and Justice League eps
- visiting the wonderful mskatej in London with toadstoolsmiles (whee! fangirl fun!)
- posing at Platform Nine and Three Quarters at Liverpool St Station (my boyfriend and friend were very tolerant of me embarrassing them)
- bargaining in the KL Chinatown markets for dvds (sadly the 'Good Sex Bad Lex' dvd set they tried to convince me contained the season finale, did not, but it's still a good souvenir for the small amount of $ I spent on it, and does contain most of Season 5).

And yes, now home and still sick, but despite me rushing straight to work from the airport, apparently my projects are not in the crisis I imagined they would be, so I can breathe a little and ease back into things here.

Now. How is fandom? Awesome SV finale, yeah?! I will write on it later. I dl'd the last three eps I missed and watched them in a rush. But what else is news? Who has made things? What Mike or Tommy goss did I miss? How is everyone? I look forward to catching up with you all, but there's no way I'm going to get through three week's of flist backlog so you should just jump up and down and point me in the right direction... ;-)

Oh, and yes, I am glad to be home, despite the excitement of travel. Melbourne is a lovely city to come home to--especially with the autumn leaves out and the clear crisp sunny days and OMG GOOD COFFEE AT LAST!

*hugs you tight* You are back! K is back and all is happy and joy! YAY! You missed the CW pics! Of Tommy and Mikey and Jared and Jensen, etc. They're everywhere. Seriously everyone has them. I'll leave the linking to other people who aren't tired and don't need sleep.

Glad, so glad to have you back! *Dances*

Yes! I did miss those pics. I will tracketh them down though... and yes, you sleep! Thank you! There is so much to catch up on, Jen! It is very daunting. *blinks*

YAY!
(Hopefully the html will work this time)

Jumping up and down! Yay! You're back! Yay! You were missed.

I'm glad you had fun--it sounds like an amazing, amazing trip despite the sickness. You should tell us more details at some point.

Um. Lots of things have happened. There are many, many reviews of the last three episodes compiled for your reading pleasure at eat_crow, and although I wouldn't recommend, for example, reading all 68 reviews of "Vessel," since many of them are quite crazy-making, you can find all your favorite reviewers linked in one place. (And while I was happy to do the compiling for fandom as a whole, I started this project because I knew you would be missing all the fun reviews and I wanted to be sure you could find them all. Shh. Don't tell anyone.)

Oh, and while you left I decided to run this huge SV project during my busiest week of the year, because I am insane, and you can read all about it here.

And umm, you have about 3 hours left or so to pop over to Television Without Pity and post a question which may be answered by Steven DeKnight, one of the SV producers.

Umm. Let's see what else. Kate and I have both done so pretty fun, silly polls since you've been gone, and I think they're mostly linked at sv_ledger. The lj user formerly known as hrd02ca changed her name to teot, and the lj user formerly known as fandom_girl changed her name to tehjules. There was much, much squeeage about the hotness that is Zod. Metropolis fell. Continents bumped into each other and created new landmasses. You have been gone SO LONG!

I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK! YAY!!!!! Yay to the 40th power!

::HUGS:::

*HUGS BACK*
Hooray! Yes, I am back, and I missed you SO MUCH! It feels lovely to be 'home' on LJ. And I still can't believe I missed the season finale fun, although I became very zen about it while away... I saw posters for it in Malaysia and had only a momentary pang! It was good to know that I am, despite all evidence to the contrary, a sane person and able to live without my show for a few weeks. But it's also good to be back in the squee zone too! ;-)

Yay for you and eat_crow! *huggles you* 68???? Woah!

I've seen your Feedbackathon thing all over my favourite peep's LJs! This is yayness! It's so cool that you're so active these days. But isn't it the end of semester? Aren't you going crazy???

ZOD HOTNESS! Yes! Obviously this is the biggest and best thing to happen while I was gone. Because Lex clearly needed ANOTHER hot alter-ego version of himself! I'm so glad they realised this. ;-)

Whee! Back! I will no doubt be littering your old posts with comments over the next couple of days. ;-)

you've been missed! welcome back to lj. :)

oh, Local Hero! peter capaldi and the mermaid, the watch left in the little tidepool, peter riegert looking amazingly young and luscious, oh yes. the color of the sky... my father's mother was a campbell, and i've long had this atavistic yen for things Scottish. (if it isn't Scottish, it's crrrrrrap.)

Aw, thank you! And yay for someone that knows what I'm talking about. Yes, I definitely rediscovered my love of Scotland. I was born there, so I've gone through periods when I curse my parents for ever leaving and then periods of bored indifference. But I've resolved to go back there and travel properly some time--usually I just flit between family members. But the country is so beautiful, I'd love to spend more time exploring.

Ditto! I missed all the Zod squee! But yeah, I'll pull my thoughts together later and then go read everyone's posts and comments. Yay!

Hee. Well, I have high standards! Most of the food was fantastic, so I shouldn't really complain... but I'd seriously forgotten how poor the coffee was in the rest of the world! ;-)

Hooray! I'm so, so glad you're back, and it sounds like you had a great time! I know, though, that no matter how great the time, eventually you need to be home.

You will have to tell me more about the food! That's one of the most important parts of a trip is what wonderful things you get to eat. ;)

Hee! I would have totally spazzed about the Platform Nine and Three Quarters. Awesome. And even more awesome, Tommy! I could buy the Cheaper by the Dozen 2 dvd and watch just his scenes. Yes.

Hmmm... what did I do while you were gone? Well, my trip home was good (as was the food *g*), and I did a poll about "the kiss", and OoO, I wrote RPS. That was different! And now, I'm having an awesome time with the feedbackathon. So, it's been a fun few weeks, but I missed you lots.

YAY!
K, Bop or Boppy--take your pick!: Clois hugbop_radar on May 21st, 2006 04:24 am (UTC)
Yeah! It's good to be home, though the trip also gave me more travel yearnings...

Food! Very important! Yes, in the UK I got to have my old favourites--scampi (north sea prawns) and chips, yorkshire pudding (in Yorkshire), buttries (yummy pastry things), tablet (sweet made from sugar and condensed milk), and skirlie and mealie pudding (oatmeal and suet stuff). Oh, and Jaffa Cakes (choccie biscuits of goodness). In Malaysia, the highlight was fresh red snapper bbqed on the beach, but also all the great fruit smoothies. Unfortunately with my tummy not so great, I couldn't eat quite so much spicy stuff as I would have liked, but the food was generally very good, yes. Oh, and special mention to mskatej's lasagne! It was homemade yummy goodness!

You wrote RPS! Whee! That is fun. And yay for good food. I think the feedbackathohn is awesome--I'm glad I'm catching the tail end of it! Hooray!
